Neverest’s Hot Boys, Hot Music, and Smoking Fashion!
On Monday I was lucky enough to steal a few minutes from hot emerging Toronto band, Neverest to talk all things music, celebrity, and style. The boys had a busy day shooting the video for their debut single “About Us” (due to release in October), and their obvious excitement and soaring adrenaline was contagious. Great talent aside, they were refreshingly enthusiastic, down-to-earth, and full of laughs. After meeting them, there’s no doubt in my mind this band is making it big time!
Neverest is a pop-rock band with a variety of musical influences. From country to hard-rock, the guys pull it all together to create an addictive sound. They played “About Us” for me before the interview, and I’m hooked. The talent behind the name belongs to Spee (lead vocals), Mike (guitar), Paul (bass), and Brendan (drums). The band is represented by Howie Dorough (Backstreet Boys) and CJ Huyer (3 Deep). Their full album is set to launch in Spring/Summer 2011, although personally, I’d like to see that date pushed back to ASAP!
The band came together through a mix of channels. Spee and Mike were highschool friends, Paul got involved through their producer, and Brendan… well, he was found via Craigslist, proving great things can come from online classified ads! The guys draw inspiration for their music from everyday occurences and each other. Their idols? Iconic Canadian band Nickelback.
Coming from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Greek, Chinese/German, and Italian, these guys aren’t afraid to poke a little fun at each other. They branded Paul with the nickname “Jersey Shore,” although Paul claims he’s never even seen the show.
Getting into some style talk with Neverest, they clearly knew what they were talking about. The guys were extremely grateful for the support they’ve had from great brands like PF Flyers, Lucky Jeans, Fossil, and Soos Rocks Accessories. And I must say, they did look great!
The guys said they usually prefer casual looks, naming American Apparel, H&M, and Toronto store XTC Designs as some of their favorite places to shop around town. Any fashion faux-pas they wouldn’t be caught dead wearing? “Anything Paul wears,” the band joked, before adding they’re actually very open to experimenting and are willing to try almost anything once. The guys also like looks that standout a little, rather than overworn brands and styles.
Neverest is well aware how important image and fashion are for success in the music industry. The guys all agreed style is just as, if not more important, than the music itself in making it big. They added it’s crucial for artists’ styles to fit their music’s message, saying, “you can’t dress like a cop and be a criminal.”
As for the ladies (on the edge of our seats now, aren’t we?), the guys love a classy, sexy look. They find themselves drawn to “something different that catches the eye” and like when “girls look girly.” They also gave a shoutout to professional and business attire. But no matter what a girl sports, they’re intrigued by a woman confident in what she’s wearing. Showing some true fashion insight, they stressed that to be true for style in general; agreeing it’s less about the clothes and more about the attitude.
With great sound and a keen style sense in hand, Neverest is well-equipped to break into the industry big leagues. Definitely looking forward to seeing and hearing much more of them!
