Designer Spotlight: Top Model Star Jay Manuel
‘You wanna be on Top?’ By the looks of it, Jay Manuel sure does!
We all know Jay from the reality television shows America’s Next Top Model, Canada’s Next Top Model, and E!’s Fashion Police. He has undoubtedly shown his side of talent and experience in the fashion industry, as not only a photoshoot stylist, and make up artist, but he has also produced fashion shows. Noticing his never-ending line of experience, Manuel is venturing out into the position as Creative Director of ATTITUDE; Sears Canada private label collection.
For over a year, he has been working on a clothing line for women. Catered to make fashion accessible for women who love to be beautiful.
He will be involved in every aspect of the new line. For example: Design, product development, marketing , in-store retail and fit. At the height of perfection, Manuel will surely produce a collection that’s spunky and beautiful. In addition to the beautiful collection, he is said to feature shoes, bags and accessories. How exciting is that?!
“Manuel has a multi-year deal with Sears as creative director of the retailer’s rebranded private label collection, Attitude Jay Manuel.”
According to VanStyle, ” Manuel’s ATTITUDE Fall/Winter 2011 Collection is for the “stylish woman on the go, and is said to combine the sophisticated silhouette of the early 60s with the luxury and textures of the 70s with a modern day aesthetic. Ranging between sizes 0 and 18, the collection is home to a Moroccan color pallet of versatile pieces including seamed dresses, wide-legged trousers, sleek pencil skirts, and fashion-forward suiting that can easily transition from office to evening wear.”
Jay Manuel will feature his entire line, ATTITUDE, at LG Fashion Week on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. ”The colour palette is inspired by Morocco, and consists of slate, cognac, peacock, marine, raspberry and black, accented by stylized animal prints. The line will be available at Sears across Canada in August 2011 and will range from $12.97 to $139.99.”
Talk about reasonably-priced… We can’t wait to see the new line!
In Winnipeg Free Press, Jay Manuel states being nervous prior to the debut of his Sears collection at Toronto’s upcoming LG Fashion Week. He doesn’t know completely as to why he is nervous, but the jitters came once he arrived in Toronto.
The line, under the nickname ATTITUDE, has been showcased during previous fashion weeks. But it seems that Manuel will have a few surprises on the runway when designs are showcased from the fall-winter line, which will be a modern take on late 1960s silhouettes, including styles that are luxurious and unique textures from the ’70s.
He may even surprise us with a model on the catwalk from the American/Canada top model show, but we won’t find out until we watch the LG Fashion Show on March 30th. Manuel plans to tour across Canada once the line hits stores. He admits that the process is a lot more exhausting than he had anticipated. As he prepped for the collection, he devotes off-days from taping and production design with the team.
The 38-year-old started off as a makeup artist, and has shown greatness in the fashion and beauty industries. “He’s worked with famed photographers like Annie Leibovitz, developed a makeup line and served as creative director and producer of photo shoots on 16 cycles of “America’s Next Top Model.”
With great initiative, Jay Manuel is on Top of his game. We at Fashion Hungry applaued him for his continous success and can’t wait to see what else is in-stored for him in the fashion industry.
